Great efforts are usually placed on developing optimal work conditions and methods. Countless hours are spent writing Standard Operating Procedures ("SOP") to document those methods, yet too often we notice that different levels of management, most notably supervisors are not familiar with the SOP which in turns results in associates not following the prescribed methods detailed in the SOP. This means that your SOP are of a theoretical nature as they are not followed in day to day operations. Not only does this suboptimize your operations but it also jeopardize the validity of your Engineered Labor Standards ("ELS") and workforce management initiative.

Our order Supervisor Methods Observation Training focusses on key aspects of supervising distribution operations. We believe that to efficiently manage a distribution operation and even more so one that uses ELS, your supervisors must be trained and become proficient at creating an environment that will support the associates in achieving the productivity goals with minimal effort. Supervisors should also be able to observe the associates and be able to provide coaching to guide them towards better work methods. Effective coaching means that the supervisor will pinpoint specific issues an associate is having and quickly implement corrective measures either directly or by referring the associate for additional formal training.

In an ELS environment the supervisor must also be proficient at understanding the productivity reports and at using these report to improve the efficiency of the workforce. Supervisors that can properly interpret productivity reports and bring the appropriate corrective measures and coaching will empower the workforce to be successful.
